GREENSBORO, N.C. — Brandon Cameron was all smiles with his wife.
But if you take a closer look you'd see he has a story that could steal anyone's joy.
Cameron found out he would have to lose part of his leg seven months after surviving a horrific crash.
"It hit me like man but then I realized I'm still here," Cameron said. "I'm still alive that's the most important thing."
It's that mindset that pulled Cameron through his long road to recovery.
The journey started in August of last year when a drunk driver going 90 miles an hour along Huffine Mill Road slammed into Cameron and his son head-on.
"I can only remember my inability to remain conscious and I remember looking at the seat covered in blood, the floor covered in blood, the ceiling covered in blood," Cameron said. "When I looked In the back for my phone there was blood so in knew this wasn't good."
Cameron's son wasn't injured but Cameron had several injuries --the worst was having his Tibia and Fibula bones ripped from his left leg.
"I honestly didn't know if I was going to make it out," Cameron said. "I was like this could very well be it."
After 50 days spent at Cone Health recovering, he thought he could put the tragedy behind him.
But a check-up after having knee pain turned into setting up a partial leg amputation appointment.
"To go from uber-independent to not being able to do anything it was a blow," Cameron shared.
Cameron remained positive through it all.
"He was my inspiration because he was so strong," said Cameron's wife Amanda. "I don't think I could have been that strong."

"They were able to put the Hulk on the side," Cameron said. "You can't break the hulk
And he'll wear it to throw the first pitch at the Grasshoppers baseball game Sunday.
Cameron said his doctors nominated him unknowingly because of his positive attitude
When the grasshoppers heard Cameron's story he was chosen.
"I have adopted the grasshoppers. I love the grasshoppers," Cameron said with excitement. "I'm like hey that's an honor. I was humbled."
Cameron said Greensboro Police did initially arrest the driver responsible. We reached out to GPD a few hours ago for an update on the case but have not heard back at this time.
