ASHEBORO, N.C. — An attempted robbery in Asheboro was caught on camera.
An employee said it happened just before closing. According to the police report the incident happened at Strickland Brothers 10 minute oil change in Asheboro on Dec. 7.
The robber went into the car shop with his face covered and gun in hand. Workers said he was on a mission for a safe. However, the safe did not exist.
"He's standing two feet away from me and still holding the gun at me. He's like, 'Somebody sent me, where is safe!?' a worker recalled.
"I told him there is no safe here," they said.
For safety concerns, we are not revealing the victim's identity. But he did say exactly what happened.
The worker said the robber pointed a gun at him several times. He and another employee were alone with the robber in the office.
The worker said he went back and forth with the robber.
"I reached down and grabbed two pouches. We have two little pouches, one for the deposit and one for the money we keep in the drawer. I had them both and I'm like 'look, this is all we got.'" he recalled.
The worker said the robber jumped over the counter digging through the pouches.
The worker said they had about $1,000 in cash. But the robber surprised everyone before taking off.
"He goes on holding the pouch debating if he's gonna take the money. Then he takes the money out and hands it right back to me," the worker said.
The store is now closing earlier as a precaution. No one was hurt in this ordeal.
The worker said it lasted for about 5 minutes.
