Guns From Ruger Factory in NC, Stolen From a UPS Facility in Tenn. Found in Chicago: ATF

Two people driving a U-Haul truck stole the weapons on Sunday from a UPS facility in Memphis, the ATF says.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- — Federal authorities say hundreds of guns that were stolen from a United Parcel Service facility in Tennessee have been recovered in the Chicago area.

The guns started out right here in the Triad.

It sounds like something out of a movie.

Right in our own backyard, at the Ruger facility in Mayodan a shipment of 400 guns made their way across state lines, but then were hijacked.

Nashville Chicago ATF Thefts

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says in court documents that most of the roughly 400 guns stolen from a UPS facility in Memphis were found Sunday afternoon in Midlothian, a Chicago suburb.

According to the ATF, two people have been charged and one person has been arrested.

ATF says the guns were taken early Sunday by two men in a U-Haul truck. ATF spokesman Michael Knight said the truck was recovered along with the guns.

ATF tells WFMY these cases are a team effort. In an email the ATF said "ATF routinely works with area dealers, manufacturers and our local law enforcement partners to recover stolen firearms as quickly as possible."

Knight said the estimate of 400 stolen firearms being shipped from a Ruger factory in North Carolina makes it one of the largest single gun thefts the ATF has investigated.

We drove to the Ruger facility where these guns came from, but couldn't get inside. They gave us a slip of paper with their lawyer's information on it. We called, and haven't heard back.

So far, no word from Ruger.

The ATF sent us the picture of two suspects. One has been arrested, and the other is Roland Jackson from Chicago, and the ATF is looking for any information on where he might be.

UPS said it's cooperating with law enforcement.
