WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A second juvenile was arrested for the murder months after a shooting on Ashley Crossing in Winston-Salem that killed a 16-year-old and injured a 19-year-old, according to police.

This arrest comes only 10 days after the first juvenile suspect was arrested.

Winston-Salem police said they responded to Ashley Crossing and Morgan Circle on June 10 shortly before 10 p.m. to find Trevon Mitchell, 16, of Kernersville lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds and his brother Nassia Winfrey, 19, with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Winfrey was taken to a hospital and his injury was non-life-threatening.

Mitchell was pronounced dead on the scene.

After the initial investigation, police discovered that Mitchell was visiting his brother Winfrey at an apartment when they left the apartment to meet someone in the parking lot when the suspects started shooting, striking both Mitchell and Winfrey.

Police said there is evidence to suggest that multiple people witnessed the shooting and are encouraging witnesses to reach out to law enforcement.
