DENTON, N.C. — Correction: The Davidson County Sheriff's Office has since sent out a correction to the name of the suspect identified in this story.
Davidson County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect that injured a deputy and victim in Denton.
59-year-old Gideon Macon injured a deputy and another person inside a home.
Simmons said the incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. They received the call that someone had been shot through a window of their home on M H Drive in Denton.
While arriving at the scene Thursday, multiple units from Davidson County found several shots from Macon as they were setting up perimeters around the incident.
One Davidson County SERT deputy was shot and was flown to a nearby hospital where he received medical attention.
Sheriff Simmons says the deputy had a few complications from his injuries but is doing very well. He also stated the victim has since been released from the hospital.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to Denton to help with the investigation.
Macon continued to shoot at law enforcement as he tried to dodge them by changing locations several times throughout the night.
After several hours of continued negotiations and containment, Macon was shot and died from his injuries.
According to court records Macon had previously been charged with pointing a gun, communicating threats, and cruelty to animals in 2020.
Our crew on scene talked to someone who lives in the area, where they said they saw law enforcement agents approach a house and ask someone over a loudspeaker to come out with their hands up.
This investigation is ongoing.
