DURHAM, N.C. — Four people were injured on North Carolina Central University's campus Saturday night as the result of a shooting, according to the university.
According to North Carolina Central, the incident happened a little more than an hour after NCCU police officers received reports of shots fired at 7:43 p.m. While there were no injuries reported, it was determined that three shots were fired in the air in the parking lot behind the Debra Saunders-White Residence Hall.
Police arrested a suspect and issued an all-clear alert on campus at 8:11 p.m. While clearing the campus following the initial incident, at 8:59 officers heard gunshots and issued another alert to the campus.
While investigating these gunshots, officers found four people — including one North Carolina Central University student — near the Student Services Building on Eagle Campus Drive suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers placed the campus on lockdown until clearing things at 11:48 p.m., according to the university.
There was no word on whether a suspect was arrested in this second shooting.
"We know how much Homecoming means to each of you, and we are grateful for the spirit of togetherness and celebration we shared this week," the university said in a statement. "Unfortunately, two incidents occurred that impacted our Ultimate Homecoming Experience and have weighed heavily on us all."
North Carolina Central officers are still investigating both incidents.
