DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Three Lexington residents were charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty last month after investigators said they were in possession of over 20 domestic dogs that needed immediate veterinary care.

Many of the dogs were left between two residences on the property in Lexington where the Davidson County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate. When the animals were first discovered, the Sheriff's Office issued multiple cruelty compliance orders and began removing the dogs from the property with the help of rescue organizations from July to October.

On Oct. 22, deputies returned to the property in question to "pick up several sick dogs." Several more were removed from the home the following week and were treated for parvo at a local veterinarian.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office charged 56-year-old Kimberly Toler with three felony counts of animal cruelty, five misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and one local ordinance violation. Thirty-nine-year-old Dennis Toler was charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and one local ordinance violation.

Another woman, Janice Phillips, was charged with three felony counts of animal cruelty, four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and one count of local ordinance violation. All three are scheduled to appear in Davidson County Court on Dec. 4.

Anyone with more information about this case is encouraged to contact Deputy C. Soles or Deputy K. Daniel at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division at 336-242-2105.
