2 High Point teens charged with attempted murder after Sunday night shooting: Police

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Two High Point teenagers have been charged with attempted murder related to a Sunday night shooting in the city, according to police.

The High Point Police Deparment said officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. on Sunday to E Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hay Street after a call of gunshots. When an officer attempted to stop a suspect vehicle, the driver sped off and a chase ensured. The chase ultimately ended after the suspect crashed at W English Road and Dorothy Street in High Point.

Nahzier J. Dunlap, 19, and an unnamed 16-year old were arrested after the chase. Officers found three handguns and multiple shell casings in the vehicle, according to High Point police.

According to a press release, officers determined that Dunlap and the 16-year-old juvenile exchanged gunfire with people in another vehicle. The gunfire ended up hottinmg two homes and one vehicle in the area, but no one was reported injured.

Both suspects were charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possessing stolen goods, two counts of injury to personal property and speed to elude arrest.

Dunlap was also charged with contributing to the delinquency and neglect by parents/other. He is currently being held at the Guilford County Jail in High Point. Police say the 16-year-p;d is facing an additional charge of firearms or other weapons, display and discharge prohibited.

The 16-year-old is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Greensboro.

The High Point Police Department said it has not identified the other suspects who exhanged gunfire with the two teenagers. They also haven't identified the other involved vehicle.
