CLIMAX, N.C. — Two people were arrested on various charges Friday in Climax after officers found them sitting in a vehicle that was reported stolen, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to McClintock Road on Friday in reference to a possible location for the stolen vehicle. That's when they found the vehicle sitting in the driveway of a residence, and 36-year-old Jonathan Charles Toomes and 36-year-old Coty Ryan Hartsell sitting in the vehicle.
Upon searching the car, deputies said they found an illegal substance and paraphernalia. Toomes and Hartsell were arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both Hartsell and Toomes had warrants out for their arrests before this incident. Hartsell was served with an outstanding warrant for theft of a vehicle and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Asheboro. She received a $25,000 secured bond and was scheduled to appear in Randolph County District Court on Monday.
Toomes had three outstanding arrest warrants, which were for a felony probation violation and failures to appear in court on misdemeanors. He received no bond because he was out on pre-trial release. His first court appearance was also set for Monday.
