2 arrested in armed robbery, chase in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Two people were arrested after an armed robbery and chase in High Point.

High Point police said they responded to an armed robbery call on the 100 block of James Road Wednesday around 11:45 p.m.

Officers said victims told them two people with masks went into an apartment, held them at gunpoint, and ran off with a couple of items.

Two officers saw a car speeding away from the scene and went after the car, the officers then stopped when they lost sight of the car.

Police said a short time later, an officer with the High Point Police Department’s K9 Unit spotted the suspect’s car, and noticed the suspect started driving recklessly.

A chase ensued and ended when the suspect crashed into a guardrail at I-74 and NC-66.

The suspects then ran from the car.

A K9 officer tracked down one of the suspects, who is a juvenile, 17, of Kernersville He is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon 
  • Misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun 
  • First-degree burglary 
  • Breaking and entering with intent to terrorize 
  • Larceny after breaking and entering 
  • Injury to personal property 
  • Interfering with emergency communications 
  • Four counts of felonious restraint

Two K9 officers arrested the driver of the car, Tiahz N. Ellison, 19, of Kernersville with the help of a K9 officer from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Ellison is charged with the following:

  • Conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon
  •  Resist, delay or obstruct a public officer
  • Fleeing to elude
  •  Traffic violations

Officers said this was an isolated incident.
