The officer-involved shooting happened at a home on Overbrook Court early in the morning. Police say Zachary Aikens was on the roof when he shot at officers with a shotgun. Officers shot back and hit Zachary Aikens, who remains in the hospital in stable condition.
Police say before the officer-involved shooting, they detained the 15-year-old who was hiding in a wooded area nearby.
Other officers responded to a home on Dorothy Street and found the body of Gene Aikens.
Police say the teen and Zachary Aikens are friends, and that the teen was an "active willing participant" in the murder. They say the teen may receive additional charges, and he is currently in the custody of the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center.
