GREENSBORO, N.C. — Today, people will gather at Bennett College for a Celebration of Life for Mayor Pro-Tem Yvonne Johnson.
Johnson was known as a community leader and made a lasting mark on the Greensboro area. She died on Dec. 4 and was 82 years old.
Johnson will be honored with a horse-drawn procession parade beginning at 11 a.m. The parade will leave Perry J. Brown Funeral Home and travel towards Bennett College’s campus.
After the parade, there will be a family visitation hour.
The Celebration of Life for Johnson will start at 1 p.m. at Bennett College.
Lisa Johnson-Tonkins, Johnson's daughter, spoke with WFMY News 2 about the legacy her mother left behind.
“I feel like my mother had a full life. She was just ready to be with her husband," Johnson-Tonkins said.
Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said the following about Johnson in a statement: “Yvonne Johnson didn’t just honor us through her political position. She worked with countless organizations to make a difference.”
We will be streaming the horse-drawn procession parade and the Celebration of Life for Johnson on WFMY+.
