Greensboro police prepare for more speeders and impaired drivers during the holidays

More speeders and impaired drivers are seen during the holidays.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The roadways may be clear since almost everyone has made it to their destinations for Christmas.

But, if you have not made it to your destination, that does not give you the green light to ignore the speed limits.

The Greensboro Police Department said the holidays are a time when they tend to see more speeders and impaired drivers.

If you choose to speed you could get pulled over and a ticket.

Officer Darryl Stollings with the Greensboro Police Department wanted to remind you that buzzed driving is drunk driving.

If you're even questioning if you're okay to drive, don't do it!

"It could lead to several things. With a DWI charge, you're looking at revocation of your driver's license for a minimum of one year and all the fees and fines that are associated with it, plus legal costs," said Officer Stollings. "The worst thing that could happen is you could wreck and hurt yourself or someone else. That's really what we don't like to see during the holiday season."

Officer Stallings added that safety starts even before you leave your home.

"If they were to get a flat tire or something, have emergency contacts to get a ride. Know what towing service if that is possible and also having some foul weather gear in the car, having a blanket of something in the car to stay warm especially if the car is not running," Officer Stollings said.

And don't forget the statewide 'Booze it and Lose it' campaign is going on through Jan. 1 so, there will be extra patrols on the roadways trying to keep you safe.
