You may see changes on Randleman Road this Fall

The city said it has about $2M for improvements to the Randleman Road Corridor.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro hosted a picnic for neighbors to talk about the status of the Randleman Road Corridor Plan.

It wants the community's input on how to improve the quality of life for folks living in the corridor.

This comes after neighbors voiced concerns about a string of violent crimes in the area. The city believes the solution is in its Randleman Road Corridor Plan.

Councilmember Sharon Hightower told us the city has around $2 million to improve a 2.3 mile stretch of Randleman Road from the I-40 interchange to the city's southern border.

She told us the vision for the area includes: better transportation and booming businesses.

"We're talking about grocery stores, healthcare facilities and pharmacies. We are talking about those businesses that people utilize on a regular basis and how it will improve this area," Hightower shared, "As well and continue to serve those individuals that live here as well as those that are going to be moving into the area."

Crystal Black told us she is looking forward to seeing these changes in the community she grew up in.

"The expectation of Southeast Greensboro has always been held to a high standard and we want to maintain that," Black said.

She serves as Chair of the Southeast Greensboro Coalition

Before the improvements can happen Black said she wants to get rid of crime masking the area. She wants accountability and transparency from business owners, the city and the surrounding community.

"There are certain issues related to commercial properties where there's not a standard given to those commercial owners on how they should conduct business in our communities," Black explained.

The city said it wants the input of neighbors as the planning phase continues. The city hopes to complete a part of the plan in the Fall.
