The Central Carolina Fair is celebrating 125 years

The fair runs from Friday Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 15th.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Central Carolina Fair is doing something different this year.

It's opening for three weeks instead of two as it celebrates 125 years of serving the Triad.

Fair manager Chris Kelly said there are 30 rides for families to enjoy.

"We kind of pride ourselves on our number of kiddie rides, a bulk of our attendance tends to be families with kids," he shared.

Each ride requires a state inspection.

Darrell Desgranges is the business manager for Michael's Amusements. It is the company responsible for the rides at the Greensboro Coliseum.

He said the state looks at the assembly, operation, and structure of the rides before it can get the green light.

"The inspection is just like building a house. They make sure that the framework on the ground is secure and everything is proper. Then they move into the setup of the ride and make sure it's assembled correctly," Desgranges said.

If you are looking forward to fair food, he said each vendor has to follow county guidelines.

"All of our food vendors are permitted through the county. They all get inspected by the county health inspector, the same inspections that a restaurant would have," he recalled.

Fair officials said the Central Catolina Fair may expand its footprint.

"Also extending a little closer to Gate City Boulevard for visual purposes and to kind of change the direction and the flow of our midway," Kelly said.

Throughout the 12 days of the fair, it is estimated to bring in thousands of people looking to have some fun.
