State Bomb Squad Gets New Robots in Time For Fourth of July

With 64 calls since January, the bomb squad welcomes the new robots that can go up and down stairs, have six cameras, can lift about 15 pounds and cut wires.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The State Bureau of Investigation's bomb squad just got three new, light-weight robots just in time for Fourth of July festivities.

SBI says the holiday is often a busy time for their bomb technicians.

With 64 calls since January, the bomb squad welcomes the new robots that can go up and down stairs, have six cameras, can lift about 15 pounds and cut wires.

The SBI bomb squad got three new bomb-detecting robots. 

The robots have a ability to find and neutralize explosive devices in small spaces in aircrafts, buses, and trains.

The robots cost $153,000 and were purchased through a grant with the Governor's Crime Commission. They will serve all 100 North Carolina counties.
