GREENSBORO, N.C. — Most of us can think back to when every school had a school nurse. That's not the case in the majority of schools across the country.
According to the National Association of School Nurses, only 39% of schools employ full-time school nurses, 35% employ a part-time school nurse and over 25% do not employ a nurse at all.
This year, a bill to require a school nurse at every school in North Carolina was introduced but it got stuck in committee back in May.
"So I believe in my heart and it is our passion and mission here that every child deserves a school nurse," said Brooke Hamby, Public Health Nursing Supervisor for school health in Forsyth County. She says there are openings for school nurses.
