WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Folks celebrated at the Old School Block Party, on Saturday in Winston-Salem.
Residents and theatre-goers alike met downtown to celebrate the end of the international black theatre festival with food, community and throwback music.
This year's festival marked 35 years of the festival in the city.
And to bring it to a close, the city threw a multi-day block party, on Saturday night with a focus on members of the community born before the 90's.
WFMY News 2 spoke to several residents who told us events like this are what bring a community together.
"The young people need to know where they came from and we need to be reminded of the good times and they need to know that this is how it's supposed to be. It's supposed to be unified, together, loving one another. just being community," said eventgoer, Katrina Kirkley.
The city of Winston-Salem projected more than 60,000 people to attend the festival throughout the week.
