ASHEBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Zoo claims the top spot in a nationwide contest for 'Best Zoo' in the United States.
They were first nominated in the Newsweek Readers' Choice Awards last month. This is the second time the zoo has taken home a 'Top 10 Readers' Choice' title in a nationwide contest in six months.
"It is humbling to be recognized as 'Best Zoo' during our golden anniversary year when we are reflecting on our past and looking to the future," NC Zoo Director and CEO, Patricia Simmons said.
They saw it even more impactful that it is taking place during their 50th anniversary.
