'We thank the community': Nix family releases statement

The Nix family released a statement after the funeral.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — For the first time, the Nix family is breaking their silence since the loss of Sergeant Dale Nix.

They released a statement after the funeral services:

“On behalf of our entire family, we want to express our gratitude for all the love, support, and heartfelt gestures in honor of Dale. Thank you for sharing your memories of him and for honoring his legacy of service to this community in such meaningful ways. We thank the community again and ask for continued prayers.”

The day of his remembrance started at noon on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Sgt. Nix's casket was wrapped with the American flag as law enforcement officers escorted him in a horse-driven carriage in a nearly 10-mile route to Westover Church in Greensboro.

Hundreds of people lined the streets along the way as a means to pay their respect to the fallen hero.

The funeral service was just as emotional as the procession.

People in the community remembered him as an officer dedicated to his work, an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with, and a loving friend.

Please keep Sgt. Nix's family, friends, and the Greensboro Police Department in your thoughts through this tremendous loss.
