NC State Highway Patrol mourning the loss of one of their own

Trooper Zachary Martin passed away over the weekend after a long battle with cancer.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Law enforcement officers across North Carolina are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Trooper Zachary Martin died Saturday, Feb. 10 after fighting a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind a wife and two sons, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). 

“Trooper Martin carried on this fight with courage, determination, and perseverance,” said Colonel Freddy L. Johnson Jr., commander of the State Highway Patrol. “Our heartfelt prayers and condolences are with the Martin family as they cope through this time of loss.”

Martin served as a deputy with Beaufort County for seven years before joining the highway patrol in 2018.

Funeral Arrangements

• Visitation – 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at First Church of Christ 520 East 10th Street Washington, NC

• Celebration of Life Service – 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at First Church of Christ

• Burial to follow at Oakdale Cemetery
