NC A&T Police Chief talks safety ahead of homecoming

Chief Jermaine Cherry shares ways you can stay safe on and off campus.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — As The Greatest Homecoming on Earth continues all week, keeping students and staff safe is a top priority for the NC A&T Police Department in light of recent events on campus.

Police Chief Jermaine Cherry shares ways both students and staff can stay safe during Homecoming.

Cherry recommends traveling in groups, having your phone in hand, and making sure you are aware of your surroundings.

Cherry shared the latest ways the Police Department at NC A&T is improving how to keep students and staff safe. Recently, the department got a drone. The drone is used in many ways by putting it up in the air and giving officers eyes in the sky where they are able to see the entire campus plus students and staff.

Another way the department is keeping students and staff safe is with the license plate reader technology.

The license plate reader technology uses the front camera to get the year, make, model, and color of vehicles on campus. Cherry says this tool has helped to assist and locate missing persons and children. This same type of technology is used throughout Greensboro with the Greensboro Police Department
