GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina family is mourning the loss of their youngest daughter.
21-year-old N.C. A&T State University junior Xiomara Moore died in a tragic hit-and-run early Saturday morning.
WFMY News 2 spoke to her mother and a close family friend who said her light would shine on.
Moore's family and friends said she was just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. In her free time, Moore volunteered with children and aspired to be a nurse.
She juggled community service efforts as she studied Health Science Management at N.C. A&T.
Her mother, Carona Moore, said she is relying on faith as she grieves the loss of her only daughter.
"You took my Xiomara away from me and my family," she exclaimed. "You're going to be held accountable for that. But not on us; we are not going to hold you accountable. You have got to be held accountable by the Lord Jesus Christ and Savior."
Her loved ones remember Moore as selfless, joyful, and strong in her faith.
"She lit up the room every time she walked in," Kimberly Franklin said.
She knew Moore for 11 years as a mentor, teacher, and coach.
Moore had just celebrated her birthday and was on a service career path.
"Didn't have enough time to get into the nursing program, but once she graduated she was going to pursue it," her mother shared. "She always loved children and that was going to be her specialty as a nurse."
Those dreams were taken away after Moore was hit and killed by a driver on the corner of North Elm Street and East Friendly Ave. Greensboro police said an active search is being done for the driver who left the scene.
A close family friend called the driver's actions shameful.
"That's a coward of a person that does that," Franklin said. "This family needs closure, they need justice."
Moore's mother said despite the circumstances, she can forgive.
"I'm at peace with it because I know where she is, and I know the God she serves," Moore said.
GPD has not yet released driver details due to the early stages of this investigation.
The family said funeral arrangements and vigils are still to be determined.
