GREENSBORO (WFMY) - Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes only had one condition for his office's 'lip sync challenge' video.
"We'll do any song but 'I Shot the Sheriff,'" he said while having a chuckle.
The county's anticipated video was released Monday with deputies putting on a show at various sites throughout the county.
The video features officers lip syncing Michael Bolton's 'Reach Out, I'll Be There,' a cover of the original song by The Four Tops. Barnes said the song choice has a broader message in regards to his office and the community it serves. He wants to encourage people to start a conversation with them if they need help.
"It basically encapsulates what we try to do for folks," said Barnes. "It says 'we're going to be there for you.'"
Barnes gives a monologue at the end of the video, asking people to 'reach out if you need us'
Barnes says he's been getting pelted with questions from social media on when the office would produce a video. The Greensboro Police Department released their video last month. The Randolph County and Forsyth County Sheriff's Offices have also put out videos.
"It shows that cops are human, too. We have fun and we really enjoyed making this," Barnes said.
