What's coming to Guilford County? Leaders release 2040 draft plan

People say the top need is affordable housing.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — We got a glimpse into the future of Guilford County. The county released hundreds of pages related to its 2040 plan, built around community input. People say the top need is housing.

More specifically, affordable housing.

The county says it wants to focus the next 15-20 years on adding different types of housing to give people options. It's unclear what this could look like, but county leaders want feedback on their plan before talking with the planning board and county commissioners.

You can review the 2040 draft plan and take the survey by clicking here. The county is asking for residents to fill out the survey by Monday, August 5.

Besides housing, another big part of the proposal is ensuring the Greensboro-Randolph mega site has what it needs to thrive.

That means making sure it has the infrastructure it needs. The main focus is on water, sewer, and transportation.

Toyota is building a giant facility at the mega-site. The company plans to hire over 5,000 workers for an electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant. Toyota says production is set to start in early 2025.
