'He loved all sports.'| Guilford County family honors late son with memorial kickball game

The 4th Annual Turkey Bowl is November 29 in honor of six-year-old Cameron Robertson who passed in a car accident in 2021.

GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — A Guilford County family is turning their grief into giving this Thanksgiving.

The Robertson family lost their son Cameron in a car accident in 2021. That Thanksgiving, mom Kia and dad Omar started a foundation in their son's honor.

“He was just a brilliant little boy,” Kia Robertson said. “Fun. He never met a stranger. He loved sports. He had played soccer. He was just starting to play football, basketball and t-ball. He loved all sports. He loved his friends and family.”

The Cameron Sports Academy is hosting its Fourth Annual Turkey Bowl on November 29 in remembrance of Cameron. The foundation has hosted a memorial flag football tournament the last few years. This year, it will be a co-ed kickball tournament for both children and adults.

“Even when tragic things happen in our life, things that are unforeseen and things that we don't expect to happen, just know that you can make it through,” Robertson said. “It takes a village; it takes a community to come together. Church, family, friends, just stick together and you can get through any type of pain.”

The 4th annual Turkey Bowl is Friday, November 29th. It will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gibsonville Community Center. To register email info@cameronsports.com or 336-449-7241.
