GAC's swimming program to get 400 kickboards ahead of lessons

Second graders from Greensboro's Brooks Global Studies will hit the pool to learn water safety skills.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Aquatic Center's Learn to Swim Program with Guilford County Schools has started its 13th year.

This week, second graders from Greensboro's Brooks Global Studies will hit the pool to learn water safety skills.

To help celebrate the beginning of the new year, Speedo has donated 400 youth kickboards to be utilized during lessons. Students in the Learn to Swim Program are taught techniques that foster a systematic progression of swimming skills to maximize their development over five 40-minute lessons.

"Speedo is excited to contribute to the incredible success of the Greensboro Aquatic Center's Learn to Swim Program," said Brian Bayse, vice president, of team & specialty Sales at Speedo. "This wonderful program not only teaches life-saving skills but also helps young people develop an active lifestyle and exposes them to additional swimming opportunities."

The Greensboro Aquatic Center's curriculum-based Learn to Swim Program with Guilford County Schools debuted in 2011 to teach every public school second-grade student in Guilford County water safety skills.

To date, the program has taught over 15,000 local second-grade students across 48 Guilford County Schools at the GAC and other local pools. The program is free for all students.
