Greensboro activates White Flag warming centers ahead of frigid night

These efforts aim to ensure the safety and well-being of Greensboro’s most vulnerable residents during severe winter conditions.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — With overnight temperatures expected to drop significantly, the City of Greensboro will activate White Flag Warming Centers Monday night, to provide shelter for those in need.

Shelter Locations and Hours

  • Greensboro Urban Ministry: Located at 305 W. Gate City Blvd., this facility will offer overnight shelter from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Interactive Resource Center (IRC): Guests can shelter in place at 407 E. Washington St. during the same hours.

What is White Flag Activation?


White Flag Warming Centers are activated when actual or "feels like" temperatures drop to 32 degrees or below for at least two hours. Activation may also occur in cases of freezing precipitation, extended sub-freezing temperatures, or hazardous wind conditions that could endanger individuals in homeless encampments.
