Medical respite center for veterans, homeless individuals coming to Greensboro

The four-story, 37,000-sq-ft facility will significantly expand the Servant Center’s mission of empowering veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A medical respite center is coming to Greensboro to cater to veterans and homeless individuals.

Greensboro's Servant Center has bought the Holden Heights building for housing. The four-story, 37,000-square-feet, facility will significantly expand the Servant Center's mission of empowering veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness.

"This acquisition marks a transformative moment for the Servant Center," the center's executive director, Shanna Reece, said. "With Holden Heights, we are prepared to elevate our efforts and further our commitment to providing critical support to veterans and homeless individuals in our community."

The center will feature 22 beds in 11 rooms for respite care recovery from illness or injury and 21 single-occupancy rooms for veterans transitioning out of homelessness. The program aims to address the gap in local health and social services.

City funding for the acquisition of Holden Heights totals $1.5 million, $450,000 in city-enabled American Rescue Plan funds and $1,050,000 in federal Community Development Grant funds.
