Frightfully Fun Night For Local 11-Year-Old With Cancer

Johnny Van Kemp has been battling cancer for years, and one Triad Halloween staple had a ''terrifying' idea to help his spirits.

GREENBORO, NC -- Johnny Van Kemp has been battling cancer for years, and one Triad Halloween staple had a ''terrifying' idea to help his spirits.

Four years ago, WFMY News 2 covered Kemp's fight against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and in September of 2015 he was officially declared cancer free. 10 months later he found out it had come back.

The 'Woods of Terror' hosted a night in honor of Johnny Van Kemp on Saturday with proceeds going to his family.

"Johnny will be our guest monster. He will be in make-up and costume, and will ride in the coffin car to lead the parade with General Nightmare," said Eddie McLaurin, owner of Woods of Terror. "It's going to be a great night for a great cause."

People who are wearing a do it for Johnny or "DIFJ" bracelet will get $10 off a fast pass. If you want to meet 'monster' Johnny there is a $5 fee at the door.
