GREENSBORO, N.C. — Over 60% of Guilford County households live under the poverty line, which equates to almost 45,000 people. With inflation driving up the prices, families are cutting back on costs which could ultimately affect extra-curricular activities for students in the county. A Triad organization is working to combat this by uniting student-athletes.
Beyond Sports NC and NC Fusion celebrated opening a new warehouse that will store free sports equipment for low-income families. The organization partners with Title 1 schools to provide students avenues to get active.
“We want our Title 1 schools that we support to be able to come here and pick up whatever they need to support physical activities and sports programs for their students,” said Micheala Amidon, co-founder of Beyond Sports NC.
Sports equipment is available to community outreach programs, partners, and Title 1 middle and elementary school students and teachers throughout High Point, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem.
Participating recreation centers in High Point and Greensboro include; Brown, Glenwood, Peeler, Warnersville, Windsor, Eastside, Deep River, Morehead, Allen Jay, Oak View, and Woodmere Park.
Beyond Sports is seeking the following items for donations:
Football: cleats, gloves, kicking tees, balls, and mouthguards
Soccer: cleats, shin guards, balls, and portable goals
Volleyball: shoes, knee pads, and balls
Miscellaneous: Elementary and middle school recess bags
You can make an online donation through this link. You can also bring new or gently used equipment to any of the Beyond Sports facilities.
