Captain Metcalf, 53, died on March 29 from serious injuries he sustained in a Lexington house fire earlier that week.
The fire happened at a house on W. 5th Street. Lexington Fire said a few minutes after battling the fire, crews were ordered to evacuate. Firefighters got out of the house and then realized one of their own was missing. Teams reentered the building and found the missing firefighter, Metcalf.
Metcalf was treated for burn injuries at the scene before he was flown to a hospital, where he died a few days later.
He served his community for 30 years - 19 of those years with the Lexington Fire Department.
A funeral service for the public will be live-streamed at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville. A private burial will take place afterward.
