Bridal show geared towards Black-owned businesses returns to High Point

The 3rd Annual Black is Beautiful Bridal Show is February 25 in High Point.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — The Black is Beautiful Bridal Show is returning for a third year this Sunday at the Loft at Congdon Yards in High Point on Sunday.

Founders Shenise Wilson Glenn and Temoura Jefferies joined the Good Moring Show live in studio to talk about the show-stopping event.

Wilson Glenn is the owner of Pretty Southern Catering. Jefferies is the founder of The Buy Black Guide. It’s a Black owned business directory in North Carolina.  Together in 2022, they created the Black is Beautiful Bridal Show. The bridal show is the first and only bridal show in the Triad geared towards Black-owned businesses.

“My husband and I are caterers, and we were invited to be a part of one of the popular wedding shows in the area, but it just didn’t fit what we were looking for and we didn’t feel a part,” Wilson Glenn said. “I just had this idea and I got with Temoura, and the rest is history.”

After much success, the duo is gearing up for their third show. More than 50 black-owned businesses are participating in the event. This includes caterers, photographers, wedding dress designers, planners, and more.

“We also have two fashion shows featuring local bridal shops and designers,” Jefferies said. “You’ll have mimosas, and you’ll have swag bags. We try to make it an enjoyable event. We also invite our grooms to come out because we do have a mancave area where they can chill, relax, and shop for things that they may be interested in.”

Wilson Glenn and Jefferies said people from across the country are expected to attend this year’s show.

“Black-owned businesses have not always had that same exposure as other businesses and we are capable of doing some of the same things in some of the same ways,” Wilson Glenn said. “I think it’s important to highlight wedding professionals because we also need that exposure.”

The Black is Beautiful Bridal Show is on February 25 at the Loft at Congdon Yards in High Point. The event is from 2pm-6pm.
