Blue Ridge Parkway fully closed as storm cleanup continues

Hurricane Helene left a lot of damage and in some areas, catastrophic damage in the area.

CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Blue Ridge Parkway is fully closed as crews continue emergency stabilization efforts and assess the extensive and, in some areas, catastrophic, damage caused by Hurricane Helene, according to a statement from the park on Facebook.

Crews are working on damage assessments and actions that will restore critical communications and re-establish facilities in need of repair.

The National Park Service wants to remind the public that the full closure of the Blue Ridge Parkway and associated park trails applies to all vehicles and uses -- motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
