GREENSBORO, N.C. — The National Retail Federation expects about 80% of Americans to celebrate Mother's Day. It estimates people could spend about $33 billion this year on gifts for moms.
This weekend is different from many, thousands of people are coming into town for Mother's Day or supporting a graduate at a local university.
WFMY News 2 checked in with a local restaurant who said they are preparing for the rush of customers.
Co-owner of 'Cille and 'Scoe Tara Reaves said spring time is usually slow but the restaurant has been booked solid for a couple of weeks. She said the lunch rush for graduation and Mother's Day is off the charts.
She is a mother of five and helps keep the restaurant going,
"It is a huge boom, I've been sitting here trying to map out the weekend of just where people will sit and go," Reaves said, "We're super excited cause it's going to feel good, it's going to be hustling and bustling here."
One customer at 'Cille and 'Scoe recently graduated from North Carolina A&T. She is a mom of two and said this is the start of two celebrations in one.
"It's a personal accomplishment being able to graduate with my masters as a black woman, Christina Ross shared, "I am going to be a future black therapist and then being a mother and having my children able to witness me do this and my village it's heartwarming."
The National Retail Federation said Americans are expected to spend between $250-400 dollars on treats for mom this year
That is the second highest in history.
