2CARES: Collecting items to keep Helene victims warm

Join us Wednesday, October 9 as we collect supplies to send to Western North Carolina to help them stay warm.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is partnering with the Greensboro Elks Lodge, High Point Elks Lodge, and the Palladium Shopping Center to host another a supply collection drive to support recovery in Western North Carolina. People in Western North Carolina have been devastated by the rain, flooding, and mudslides created by Hurricane Helene's remnants. The temperatures are about to drop in the mountains and we're collecting supplies that will help residents stay warm.

Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2024

Time: Noon -6 pm

Location: Palladium Shopping Center  - 5836 Samet Drive #115, High Point, NC 27265

We're asking the community to bring these supplies to help people stay warm:

  • New blankets
  • New sleeping bags
  • New socks

Organizations have requested newly purchased items, as opposed to gently-used items from people's homes. Resources in the mountains are limited and organizations aren't able to wash any gently-used items before distributing them. So WFMY News 2 is asking people to donate items that have been purchased instead of cleaning out their own closets. The items collected will be taken to Waynesville and nearby communities.

Special thanks to the following organizations for helping make this supply drive happen:

Greensboro Elks Lodge #602

High Point Elks Lodge #1155

Palladium Shopping Center

Walker's Express

WFMY News 2 knows people in the Triad want to help. Last week, WFMY News 2 hosted a supply drive in Greensboro. Members of the community donated 110,000 pounds of water and other supplies to help impacted people in Western North Carolina.
