GREENSBORO, N.C. — Monday marks one year since the tornado that tore through east Greensboro and parts of Rockingham County caused destruction. The impact lingers for the close-knit town that saw a turbulent weather year in 2018.
There are communities, neighborhoods, schools and people young and old recovering from the storm.
But thanks to you, so many will get the help they need. We want to thank you for taking action and donating to the #2Cares tornado recovery telethon. We are still totaling the numbers but so far you have donated more than $7,000 to the relief effort. Thank you!
The money raised will go to the City of Greensboro’s Recovery fund to be used for direct Assistance, housing repairs, rehousing and case management.
People are still in need for the following items: Furniture, kitchen appliances/linen, kitchen dining and cookware, bathroom items, cleaning and storage items, home repair assistance, funds and volunteers.
Last year, the 12-hour tornado relief donation drive helped to fill eight trucks full of supplies for tornado survivors. Three Greensboro schools - Peeler Elementary, Hampton Elementary and Erwin Montessori schools were severely damaged in the storm. There was one storm-related death.
