NORTH CAROLINA, USA — More than $600 million was wagered by North Carolina gamblers on sports in the month of October, according to a release by the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.

In total, $612,046,491 was wagered, including $589,067,929 in non-promo bets. North Carolina sports bettors came out with a gross revenue of $48,659,761 in the month of October.

While the total wagering revenue of $612 million wasn't a new record — trailing both March ($659 million) and April ($648 million) — the paid wagering revenue of $589 million was a new record.

This number was lower in earlier months because of the influx of promotions different sports books offered customers in North Carolina when the ability to wager first launched.

Combining the monthly tax proceed figures and applying the state's 18% tax rate shows that the state has generated nearly $85 million in revenue from sports betting since it became legal in March.
