GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has just reached another financial milestone. The historically black college's (HBCU) endowment sits at $202 million, according to a release from the university.

This number sets NCA&T's endowment as the largest of any public HBCU, just behind Howard University, Spelman University, Hampton University and Morehouse College (private institutions).

“As our endowment grows, it provides significant income to fund programs and enhance operations at North Carolina A&T,” said Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr., who will officially retire Aug. 15. “It also increases our funding flexibility, allows us to plan more effectively for future initiatives and lends strength to our bond ratings – all important in a highly competitive higher education marketplace.”

When Martin began his tenure as Chancellor, the school's endowment was about $20 million. He later launched the Campaign for North Carolina A&T in 2012, looking to grow the number to $85 million.

After this goal was met, the university aimed for $100 million and met this number in 2020 with $181.4 million raised. This boosted the endowment to about $140 million.

The HBCU's endowment has seen steady growth as its numbers continue to climb.
