GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro City Council could give themselves a big pay raise.
The council will vote next month on the 60-percent pay increase. That would mean council members who earn $14,000 a year would now receive $22,140. The pay increase would be the council’s second increase in 22 years. This is part of the proposed budget which will be voted on next month. The city council’s salaries are among the lowest in the state.
Two members voted against the pay raise, including Mayor Nancy Vaughan. Councilman Tony Wilkins approved it, saying the salary would be comparable to other larger cities in the state.
