GREENSBORO, N.C. — You're paying more for food. In April, groceries ticked up slightly compared to a year ago, 1.1% but fast food prices soared 4.8%. When you look at how prices have changed in the last 10 years, you can really see that fast food is no longer fast and inexpensive.
Finance Buzz crunched the numbers and found a McDonald's Quarter Pounder with cheese meal has more than doubled since 2014. ($5.39 to $11.99)
The Taco Bell Beefy 5-layer burrito spiked 132% in the last 10 years. ( $1.59 / $3.69)
A Chipotle Barbacoa burrito is 87% more expensive going from a $6 item to a $12 item.
Popeyes and Burger King menu items also jumped in the 70% range. Burger King and Wendy's are seeing that people aren't still buying at the rate they were, so they have already come up with $5 meal deals.
McDonald's saw a dip in sales for the first time in years. To combat that, McDonald's is going to offer a $5 meal deal starting June 25 and let it run for a month to see how it goes. The $5 meal deal includes a McChicken sandwich, medium fry, and medium coke. Normally, this meal would cost you $8.
