7.7 Million Possibly Affected in Data Breach of Medical Collection Agency

LabCorp says millions of its customers may have had their data compromised after breach of collection agency.

LabCorp said its patients' personal information may have been exposed in a data breach. This hack comes just a day after we told you about another breach at Quest Diagnostics. It all comes back to the same third-party billing collections vendor.

The vendor, American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA), notified LabCorp about a hack. AMCA said hackers gained access to its online payment system sometime between August 1, 2018, and March 30, 2019. AMCA has informed LabCorp that it will provide about 200,000 LabCorp patients with notices that their credit card or bank information may have been accessed.

AMCA has not yet provided LabCorp a list of the affected LabCorp consumers or more information about them. LabCorp said it will no longer do business with AMCA. The company is still investigating the hack.

Last July, the FBI said it was aware of 'reports of a ransomware attack' involving LabCorp's network system

Earlier this week, Quest Diagnostics said they were alerted in May that an unauthorized user got into third-party billing vendor American Medical Collection Agency's system and accessed all kinds of private information.
