BURLINGTON, N.C. — Sheetz, the Altoona, Pennsylvania-based convenience store and gas station chain that operates 109 locations in North Carolina, has announced an investment of $16.8 million in additional wages for in-store employees.

But the wages for 260 employees at the company's distribution and kitchen facility in Burlington will not change, according to the company. The 250,000-square-foot, $50 million distribution hub at 1737 Whites Kennel Road supplies stores in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

The increase is part of the company’s effort to offer competitive wages and benefits in order to attract and retain talent. The move comes on the heels of a $15 million investment in employee wages in 2016, which coincided with an effort to shift more store employees from part-time to full-time work.
