Lowes Foods' parent company completes acquisition

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The parent company of a Triad-based supermarket chain has just gotten bigger.

Alex Lee Inc., the parent company of Lowes Foods, announced Monday that it had completed its acquisition of W. Lee Flowers & Co., a wholesale and retail grocery company based in Scranton, South Carolina, near Florence.

According to an Alex Lee release, the acquisition of W. Lee Flowers enables Alex Lee to expand its geographic footprint, enhance operations in new markets and offer consumers a greater variety of products at competitive costs. W. Lee Flowers distributes to more than 75 grocery stores in the Carolinas and Georgia, including 50 stores that it owns and operates.
