TOBACCOVILLE, N.C. — RJ Reynolds Tobacco confirmed one of its employees at its Tobaccoville, North Carolina manufacturing plant recently tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee is now at home and resting in self-isolation, the company said. An RJ Reyonlds spokesperson said the employee will not return to work until cleared by CDC protocols.
The tobacco giant also is undergoing precautions to make sure the virus does not spread at the worksite.
"We conducted a thorough cleaning over and above the end-of-shift cleaning on the employee’s work area and equipment, and reached out to other Reynolds team members that may have had routine contact with the sick employee," company officials said.
The employees that may have come into contact with the sick employee have been briefed on the need for health screening and careful monitoring in the course of the next two weeks, RJ Reynolds officials said.
