HIGH POINT, N.C. — More manufacturing jobs are headed to the Triad courtesy of a Mississippi-based upholstery and case goods furniture company.

United Furniture Industries will hire up to 500 new employees at plants in North Carolina, California and Mississippi. UFI said the hirings will help meet the growing demand for its upholstered furnishings and other products. The private company has about 3,500 employees.

Triad plants in Archdale, High Point, Lexington and Winston-Salem will expand their production capacity, according to UFI. Seven plants in Mississippi and one in Victorville, Calif., will also expand production. The release didn't specify how many jobs will be added at each plant.

Heritage Home Group LLC of High Point agreed to sell the Lane furniture line to UFI in 2017.

“Our company is pleased to be expanding our U.S. workforce in response to the sustained and growing demand for our products, including our newly acquired Lane branded products,” said Larry George, UFI president. “Our expansion benefits our customers, our industry partners, our existing employees, and the communities we call home.”

UFI said it's hiring upholsterers, springers and frame builders, among other positions, and experienced workers can make $25 per hour or more. The company offers benefits including major medical, dental, vision and 401K.
