When and how to ask for advice

Sometimes we need advice but don't know how to ask for it. Blanca Cobb explains when to ask for their help and when to trust your intuition.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Decisions, decisions… life throws them at us every day, big and small. But when should you trust your gut, and when should you seek outside input? Today, we explore the intricate dance between intuition and seeking advice.

You should rely on your intuition when you have relevant experience and your decision lines up with your values. Intuition is powerful, but it's not magic. Getting advice becomes crucial if it's a new situation or an emotionally charged one.

When you're faced with a new situation, an emotionally charged situation, or a situation you're unsure about. There are advantages to getting advice in new situations, emotionally charged situations, or situations where you're not sure what to do. You can get a different perspective from someone who has experience and knowledge or has been through the situation you're concerned about. Their input can help you see blind spots and make a well-informed decision.

There are pros and cons of each approach. Relying on your gut can be fast and efficient, but it can also be biased or miss key information. Seeking input brings diverse perspectives and reduces blind spots, but it can be time-consuming and lead to analysis paralysis. There's no one-size-fits-all. Consider the importance of the decision, your experience, and the potential consequences. Don't be afraid to combine both approaches! Trust your gut for the initial direction, then seek input to refine and solidify your choice.
