GREENSBORO, N.C. — With Christmas rapidly approaching, many people are in the hustle and bustle of preparing for the holidays. From planning to shopping and wrapping gifts, almost everyone seems busier. With so much going on, staying relaxed and happy during the holidays can be hard.
To stay happy and more relaxed during the holidays starts with your mindset. When you set realistic expectations, or better yet, don't have any expectations, then you can't be disappointed. Remember this: do your best and forget the rest.
If you practice mindful spending, setting a budget you can afford, and sticking to it, some things will happen. One, you won't worry about how you'll pay off your credit card after Christmas. And two, don't let other people's opinions, like whether they liked your gift if you gave enough, or suggest that you could have done more, bother you. You'll be more relaxed and happier because you're not stressing about overspending. Remember that the holidays are about spending time with those you love, not the price tag of gifts.
There's something relaxing about keeping the holidays simple. This is simplifying your plans, gifts, travel, and decorations. Over-the-top extravagance doesn't guarantee that people will enjoy the holidays more, nor does it guarantee that there won't be family drama. When you're in a more relaxed mood and happy, your fuse tends to be longer. You have more patience and tend to let slight annoyances go easier.
