GREENSBORO, N.C. — We're midway through January, and many of us have set New Year's resolutions. One way to reach our goals is by having an accountability partner. Today, we're diving into the world of accountability relationships – how to make them work for you and what pitfalls to avoid.
Accountability relationships can be a game-changer for success because they provide support, motivation, and a sense of responsibility. Many times, having to check in with someone helps keep you on track to achieving your goals.
You want to have clearly defined expectations for communication, check-ins, goals, and roles for each accountability partner to have a successful partnership. Your goals must be aligned.
A common mistake in an accountability relationship is when you are supposed to provide feedback or give advice; you make it about your situation. You talk about your struggles and what you're trying to figure out. This is why establishing the ground rules with clearly defined expectations is essential.
