GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tis the season of gift giving and receiving. Unless you know what you're getting, opening gifts can reveal surprises. With all the oooos and ahhhhs, how do you know if someone really likes your gift?
A heartfelt smile starts at the lips and ends at the eyes. The smile shows the upper teeth, which push up the cheek muscles to cause the crinkling at the side of the eyes. A polite smile to a generic gift would start and end at the lips without teeth showing.
When someone is excited about a gift, they tend to touch it. Pick it up and look at it. When someone isn't excited about a gift, they might keep it in the box and put it aside even if they thank you.
When someone likes a gift or is surprised by a gift, their tone of voice goes up an octave. The opposite tends to happen when they don't like the gift. The voice sounds flat and lackluster.
